HIP HOP ON A SUNDAY NITE...PART 2

O.K. so last sunday on the Hip Hop show, we did our 2nd and final 2008 year roundup.

Seeing as we fell short of our 60 tunes target last week (we got to 56), I took it upon myself to try and blaze 64 tunes in 2 hours...

Well, I got to 61...not bad though...still didn't get to play everything, but like I said, we only had 2 hours!!!!!

TRUE HIP HOP STORIES: LORDS OF THE UNDERGROUND

Taking you back to the mid 90's with this one...
The group from Newark New Jersey (Brick City) who were under the wing of the legendary Marley Marl, with production from Marley's protege, K-Def (google him) they released 2 well received albums filled with bangers and another 2 that were under the radar.

Before Lord Jazz joined the group, a young Reggie 'Redman' Noble was their DJ... (some trivia for you there...)

DO IT ALL is still making moves in the biz as he has his own music promotion company that started earlier in the year.

PYRELLI....

Ok, so I'm watching Orange Unsigned Act on T4, and Pyrelli, who's the only Hip Hop artist to get this far in this competition has just performed.

I'm not sure of the track, but I actually thought,'I need this track for my radio show tonight!!!'
After getting the crowd hyped up with the call and response, they seemed to enjoy it.

Then came the judges verdict.

Simon Gavin 'Wasn't so keen...a bit more run of the mill...'
Lauren Laverne '...What you do is very slick, but there's no spark...'
Alex James 'You can't expect people to take you seriously when you have 'Wigga Wigga' (mimicking scratching) on your record...it's 2008...IT'S 2008!!!'

1: Big up to Pyrelli for getting this far in a competition where all the odds are stacked against him it seems.

2: Aren't these judges meant to be experienced in music enough to understand the different types of acts that make different types of music which may not be their taste?

3: Alex really pissed me off as he tried to shit on Pyrelli by mocking this culture I know and love, Blurting out that kinda bullshit is like me saying, 'Alex, you can't expect ANYONE to take you seriously, the bass guitar was invented in the 1930's and it's 2008....' You get my meaning?
What about the song? What about the performance?
Well, while typing this, tryna calm down, Pyrelli didn't make it through to the next round, even though a few of the other acts fucked up their performances cause they '...had a big night last night.' Obviously not taking it seriously...the only reason he didn't make it was because he had scratching on his song????

No wonder Blur hasn't released anything or gone on tour since 2003...But Damon Albarn continues to make records and money with his other projects (Gorillaz...which coincedentally fuses Hip Hop with other Genres of music)

It's like these so called judges only listen to live bands and guitar music....Isn't it all just music??
Fucking dickheads...

AMAZON IS TRYING TO TAKE ITUNES OUT..FOR REAL

By Andre Paine, London

The long-anticipated Amazon.co.uk MP3 service has finally arrived, although the online retailer's download store had a low-key launch.

The service went live today (Dec. 3) and boasts 3 million DRM-free tracks from all four majors and leading independent labels, through licensing deals with the Orchard and IODA. Indie label groups Beggars and Concord have also signed up to the service.

Prices undercut iTunes, with tracks starting at 59 pence (87 cents) and albums priced from £3 ($4.43). The standard iTunes price of a track in the U.K. is 79 pence ($1.17).

Albums available for £3 include chart titles such as Take That's "The Circus" (Polydor) and Kings Of Leon’s "Only By The Night" (Hand Me Down/RCA), as well as back catalog such as Led Zeppelin's "IV" (Atlantic) and Joni Mitchell’s "Blue" (Warner Bros).

Despite the lack of any real fanfare for the launch, the service appears to be complete and resembles the U.S. version. The MP3 site recommends installing the 'Amazon MP3 Downloader' software, otherwise full album purchases will not be possible.

"We're excited to provide our U.K. customers with more ways to discover and enjoy great music," said Greg Greeley, VP of Amazon EU Retail, in a statement. "In addition to the millions of low-priced CDs available in our music store, Amazon MP3 now provides a vast selection of DRM-free albums and songs across every genre you can think of, ready to enjoy in seconds."

Ged Doherty, chairman and CEO of Sony BMG Music Entertainment U.K., added: "Amazon's music services in the U.S. have attracted new digital music consumers and helped grow the digital market. We have high hopes that it will have the same impact in the U.K. Amazon are an excellent and well trusted retailer, this new store can only be good for U.K. music."

However, the arrival of MP3s on Amazon.co.uk does not mean MySpace will immediately sell downloads in the U.K. While Amazon.com powers MySpace MP3 sales in the U.S., a spokesman for MySpace told Billboard.biz there was no confirmed date for when the social network site would start selling downloads in the U.K.

Amazon.co.uk’s tracks are encoded at 256 kbps and will work on PC and Mac as well as any music device.

Rival download store 7digital's CEO Ben Drury responded to the launch today by suggesting that Amazon's arrival in the U.K. download market was "a little late" and commented that its tracks were not of the same quality as 7digital's 320kbsp MP3s.

However, Drury added in the statement: "Amazon's entry into the market is good news for the digital music consumer and will help accelerate the migration from physical format to digital. This is another victory for MP3 and another blow for iTunes." The majority of iTunes tracks feature digital rights management.

The Amazon.co.uk launch follows online retailer Play.com's roll-out of its DRM-free service PlayDigital with all majors on board in October, while 7digital went fully MP3 in September.

ARAB MONEY? BANNED????

Is this shit getting out of hand or what?

I just got word that Busta's 'Arab Money' has been banned on a few radio stations in the u.k.
(including my station, Kiss) I even heard a d.j. on another station was suspended over playing it?
(which I think is weird, why not warn said D.J. and then if he plays it, take action???)

This song has been doing the rounds for at least a couple of months. When I first heard it, I thought it might be a problem, but wanted to see how people reacted to it.

In the clubs, it's all love with people doing the Arab Money dance, people request it on my radio and mixshow all the time...

There's a new remix with a few big names etc (peep it HERE)

But in my opinion, the mistake that blew it up was he re-did the hook, that sounds like (I'm not 100% sure) a muslim call to prayer....if that's what it is...which I doubt, cause Busta aint that reckless, then I'm sure the Flipmode team would've anticipated this.....
Thoughts anyone? Are you Muslim? Does it offend you? What are they saying in the chorus?
